Shimizu first made its mark in the Indian Market in 1985, when it was awarded to build Nhava Sheva Port, Mumbai. In 2007, when it became apparent that we could continue to secure a steady flow of orders in this market, permanent office in New Delhi was established to respond to the construction demand. In 2009, Bangalore Headquarters was established to address to the rise in demand for construction in Southern India. Some of the initial land mark projects in India include construction for Delhi Metro, Kalawati Saran Hospital, the Interior Fit-out Works for Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) & Toshiba, and G-TIP Factory in Delhi region. In addition, Shimizu has the priviledge to construct a number of Industrial & Interior Fit-out Projects especially for Japanese firms in the vicinities of Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai.
Establishing a Subsidiary in April 2011 to Accelerate our Response Times
To facilitate the sales activities and respond swiftly to recent growth in construction demand and local maintenance projects, Shimizu established a local subsidiary, Shimizu Corporation India Pvt. Ltd., in April 2011. Shimizu India is working to secure more projects by deploying sales activities targeting construction orders from Japanese & MNC firms as well as infrastructure package projects led by the Japanese Government.
Balancing Globalization and Localization
In order to secure more orders and expand its lines of business, Shimizu India has balanced the needs of Globalization and Localization by securing and developing a vast network of human resources. In addition to the Indian personnel assigned to the Management Team, the company also draws upon human resources from the United States, South East Asian countries, as well as Japanese staffs deputed from Tokyo Headquarters. The company is also working to ensure that subsidiary management is rooted in the local community – for example, by proactively recruiting new employees and interns each year from Premiere Institutes in India. The Quality & Safety Conferences held every quarter at construction sites as part of our efforts to pass along the “Shimizu DNA” to all the staff members of Shimizu India clearly shows how Shimizu quality is being deployed across India.

Advancing into Global Markets
In its long-term plan, Smart Vision 2010, Shimizu identifies global business as a key business domain. An important component of this plan will be the Indian market, which is expecting remarkable economic growth and a rapid increase in domestic demand due to increase in consumption and purchasing power. The number of Japanese firms entering the Indian market is growing rapidly, resulting in an increase in factory construction and interior fit-out projects ordered by these companies.
