Shimizu Philippine Contractors Inc., together with the council of Barangay Hugom, San Juan Batangas conducted a Beach Clean Up Activity last May 25, 2024. The activity was organized by SPCI as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility. A total of 54 participants joined the activity and was able to collect 87.8 kgs of garbage which can displace approximately of 61 kgs of CO2 – equivalent. This garbage composed of cigarettes butts, plastic bottles, plastic bottle caps, plastic food wrappers and glass bottles. Collected garbage were sent to the Barangay Material Recovery Facility for proper handling and disposal.
Every year tons of garbage and marine debris accumulate in our seas and coastlines, with majority of that being composed of plastic materials. Ocean trash is a serious pollution problem that affects the health of the people, marine wildlife and local economies. This beach clean-up activity encourages to get to our beaches and help limit this problem by cleaning up the garbage that has washed up on shore and left by visitors every day.
