Shimizu Bangladesh Contributed to “Euglena GENKI Program”

In line with the global emphasis of sustainable development, Shimizu Corporation (Bangladesh Branch Office) recently donated 100,000JPY to the “Euglena GENKI Program”. The program engaged in distributing cookies containing Euglena with 59 different nutrients free of charge to the children in Bangladesh. With this amount of donation, the program can deliver cookies to about 20 children continuously for one year!

Euglena Co., Ltd. is a Japanese company established in 2005, aiming to solve malnutrition problems by microalgae Euglena. A local joint venture company operated by Euglena and the Grameen Krishi Foundation, established by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the current Interim Leader of Bangladesh and the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize laureate form a joint venture company which is known as “Grameen Euglena”.

Six persons from Shimizu Bangladesh team has visited to a GENKI School in BDP City Colony, Dhaka on 17 October 2024 to meet the children who are directly benefitted from the program. The students welcomed the Shimizu team with a Japanese song they learned from the school. Later there was an interactive session where students shared some insightful details about their school activities and the impact of the GENKI-Yell program. The Shimizu Bangladesh team has also donated educational materials such as notebooks, pens, kids’ books etc. among the students. After the school visit, there was a visit to a students' home nearby to see their living conditions and understand the challenges they face every day.

Finally, it was a worthwhile CSR activity for the welfare of children who are the future of Bangladesh. As a responsible corporate citizen, Shimizu will continue to support such initiatives that address the underlying challenges for the development of our society.
